It turns out that beer is a more effective painkiller than Tylenol, so bottoms up! Photo illustration by Chris Furlong/Getty Images

Thanks to a new study, it’s been confirmed that throwing back a few cold ones is a far more efficient way to deal with pain than Tylenol.

At Greenwich University in the U.K., researchers claim they’ve discovered robust evidence that alcohol can be used effectively to kill pain. And, surprise, surprise, they also found that the more beer people drank, the less pain they felt.

“It can be compared to opioid drugs such as codeine and the effect is more powerful than paracetamol (generic Tylenol),” said Trevor Thompson, one of the authors of the study, which was published in The Journal of Pain.

So, it’s probably a good idea to skip the drugstore and head on down to the liquor store if you’re feeling any pain. But, of course, drink responsibly, or else you’ll be feeling a much different kind of pain.
