A new survey reveals what couples think is the ideal amount of time to spend boinking, and also that many are missing the mark by a significant margin.

Lovehoney, an online sex toy retailer, surveyed 4,400 people and 52 percent thought that 30 minutes was the optimal time frame, but 23 percent of men and 15 percent of women said in their experience sex ends too soon.

The study also indicates that the average amount of time most couples spend between the sheets is 19 minutes, which amounted to about ten minutes of foreplay and nine minutes of actual intercourse. And that means couples are falling short of what they see as the perfect session by about 11 minutes.

Nevertheless, 90 percent of the couples surveyed said they shared orgasms with their partners at some point during their relationships.

Sex expert Jess Wilde celebrated that statistic, saying that for about half of all couples the result is complete sexual satisfaction.

“It is fantastic news that almost 90% of couples have achieved shared orgasms at some point in their relationship,” she said. “For around half of couples this is the absolute peak of sexual happiness, so we are always looking at ways to help them share orgasms together with greater consistency.”
