The idea of breaking your penis seems to hold as much water as another long held sexual fallacy: bigger is is always better.

While the size myth is debunked almost daily, there continue to be questions surrounding the possibility of a fractured schlong. Is there even a bone in there to break? What happens if it does break?

Well, unfortunately, it’s not exactly a myth. You can actually tear the tissue in the penis responsible for causing an erection. And it’s our guess that doing so would be every bit as painful, if not more so, than breaking a limb.

The culprit is, of course, sex. Vigorous sex. A study published in 2014 concluded that 28 of the 44 broken penis cases it reviewed were caused by just three distinct sexual positions: cowgirl, doggy style and missionary.

According to the study, sex in the the cowgirl position was responsible for half of the broken penis cases, while doggy style was the second most dangerous position comprising 29 percent of the fractures, followed by missionary, the most vanilla sexual position in the book.

So, what’s a dude to do? Break out the karma sutra book and practice some new ways to do the dirty? That may not be a bad idea, but some of us prefer the big three. They’re familiar, reliable, and quite frankly, get the job done each and every time.

That said, just go with what you know. It’s well worth the risk. Besides, in the event you do snap your junk, a simple operation will have you back up and running in no time. After some excruciating bouts of pain, that is.
