It’s not often you find people 55 years apart that have much in common, but that hasn’t stopped one Indonesian couple from getting married.
According to Daily Mail, a 16-year-old boy and a 71-year-old woman got hitched against the better wishes up their Indonesian community, even threatening suicide if the wedding were blocked.
Selamat Riayadi and his bride, known simply as Rohaya, were married in Karangendah, in the western South Sumatra province of Indonesia. The two had to ask for permission from the homeowner of the place they got married in, in line with tradition in the region, because the bride had been previously married twice before.
The couple said their love was so strong that if they couldn’t be married, they would commit suicide together. While the standard age for an Indonesian man to get married is 19 years old, the couple managed to find a loophole and get the go-ahead from the homeowner and community leader named Kuswoyo (this is really starting to sound more like a Indonesian soap opera). They were married in a religious ceremony which allows any marriage to take place if it aligns with one’s religious norms.
Some doubt if the marriage is real or just a hoax. But doesn’t this look like the faces of a happily married Indonesian couple?
